My work as an art writer and independent curator from the late Nineties until 2017 brought me into deep, ongoing conversations with artists—about process, intention, visibility, and the realities of navigating an art career. Over time, I realized that the kind of thinking I brought to my writing and curatorial work—context, clarity, framing, long-term strategy—was exactly what many artists needed outside of formal exhibitions or reviews.I help artists articulate where they want to go and develop the materials, narratives, and plans to get there. This often includes:
-
Clarifying an artist statement, bio, CV, or project description
-
Strengthening portfolios and presentation materials
-
Preparing applications (exhibitions, residencies, grants, fellowships)
-
Strategizing approaches to galleries or curators
-
Reviewing works-in-progress from a curatorial perspective
-
Planning long-term goals, timelines, and opportunities
-
Providing ongoing advisory support throughout a project or career shift
My role is part editor, part curator, part advocate—a collaborator who understands the ecosystem from multiple angles and can help translate your ideas into the formats and language institutions and decision-makers respond to. If you’re refining a body of work, gearing up for applications, seeking stronger framing for your practice, or simply wanting a clearer sense of direction, I’d be happy to talk. I’m currently taking on new artist clients for winter 2025 and spring 2026.
